How big is Australia? |

|
Comparison of Australia
and United States land masses. |
|
Australia
and the continental U.S. are close to the same size, but
did you know that . . . |
|
the population of Texas alone is
nearly equal to the total
population of Australia? |
|
the Northern Territory has TWICE
the area of Texas, and the total population is
less than 200,000? |
|
the United States has 84 people per
sq. mile, while Australia has only 6 people per
sq. mile? |
|
Texas has 67 people per sq. mile,
but the Northern Territory has only 0.385 people
per sq. mile? |

Think about this! |
If we wanted to drive
to a larger town, we could either go to Darwin on the
northern coast or Adelaide on the southern coast.
The catch is that this trip will take at least 14
hours of straight driving time!! Furthermore, there
are very few places to stop along the way (What's a Dairy
Queen?), and you might drive for hours without seeing
another vehicle on the road. It would be comparable
to driving from Denver to San Antonio with nothing at all
in between! Can you imagine that? Welcome to
our world! |
